We are offering an exciting opportunity for Senior Therapeutic Radiographer to join our team in a forward thinking radiotherapy department at Velindre Cancer Service.

This post will include rotation at both the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff and the new Radiotherapy Satellite centre at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.


Main duties of the job

To work in all areas of the radiotherapy department i.e. on treatment units (External Beam, Orthovoltage, and Brachytherapy), and in the pre-treatment area,carrying out accurate and consistent pre-treatment and treatment techniques utilising highly specialist imaging .To help organise the workload in the various functions of the radiotherapy department and take responsibility for the training and supervising of juniorradiographers, Booking Clerks, HCSW and students.To deputise in the role of team leader in the absence of the Band 7 radiographer, as required and to be part of a large multi-disciplinary team and to be involved inthe total care of patients undergoing radiotherapy.? Undertake cannulation in-order to administer contrast.To work flexibly according to the demands of the service, including weekends, out of hours and on-call and across more than one site.To participate in out of hours, CHART and on-call working as required.

Person Specification


Qualifications and Knowledge

* B.Sc. (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography or Diploma of College of Radiographers DCR (T) College of Radiographers DCR (T), or Post Graduate Diploma in Radiotherapy
* Registration with Health Care Professions Council
* Evidence of CPD (continuing professional development) gained through short courses or equivalent experience
* Knowledge and understanding of principles and concepts underpinning applications and techniques used in radiotherapy
* Knowledge and understanding of current oncology issues
* Full knowledge of radiation regulations
* Evidence of further study to Masters Level

* Flexible approach to work and needs of the service

Experience

* Significant specific knowledge of radiotherapy acquired by rotating through all aspects of radiotherapy involving the whole range of highly specialised and highly complex radiotherapy equipment including linear accelerators and CT simulators
* Knowledge and understanding of principles and concepts underpinning applications and techniques used in radiotherapy
* Sound practical and technical ability and experience in a wide range of pre-treatment ,immobilisation techniques and treatment techniques.
* Quality assurance
* Audit
* Student assessment

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
