Materials Engineers - Aerospace

Permanent -£40,000 - £45,000
Capgemini Engineering are looking to recruit a number of Materials Engineers, who are looking to progress forward in a Mechanical engineering career, from Mid to Senior level.

Responsibilities
For this role the consultant will work in a close relationship with customers to support the activities of a major aerospace engineering structures technical department. The candidate will be required to provide technical support in the verification, validation and certification of internal and external requests and requirements.
The consultant will lead projects managerially and technically so should have abilities and aspirations in both competencies. Opportunities are available across a multiple technical disciplinary roles, with a certain degree of overlap in each (Assembly Parts and Principals, Surface Technology, Composite Materials, Metallics, Mechanical Testing and Failure Analysis, Programme Integration and Management). As such an ability to take on multiple projects with multiple customers is a necessity.
Tasks:
* The role mainly entails support to qualification of mechanical components, materials and processes, from need capture to full qualification achievement, including the following:
* Identify and capture designer needs
* Support design development – capture of needs
* Technical requirement definition
* Project planning and execution
* Engagement with relevant stakeholders (customer, suppliers, manufacturers and laboratories) to define and ultimately manage the qualification and certification process
* Conduct, supervise and manage counter tests and shop trial campaigns
* Follow up Environmental Health and Safety evaluation and certification
* Validate supplier and customer inputs with respect to the technical requirements
* Take ownership of tasks while reporting on progress to relevant teams and in relevant tools
Qualifications:
* BEng/ MEng / MSc Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
* MSc in Material Science
* BSc in Chemistry
* Or significant and relevant professional experience
Skills:
* Experience in Mechanical and/or Material engineering
* Project Management skills
* Metallic
* Non-metallic
* Aerospace industry experience
* Understanding of technical requirements
* Use of technical documents (Specifications, Standards, Processes, Test Methods)
* Technical analysis and validation of test campaigns and results with regard to requirements
* Report writing
* Any experience practical or otherwise in the following would be a positive (relevance in descending order). Both candidates with a range of experience across many of the below and those with specific competencies in single topics are welcome:
* Aerospace primary structure materials
* Materials and Processes – specific engagements in an industrial M+P department
* Validation and verification of technical products, new part introduction.
* Assembly technology – fastening systems, principals and processes
* Surface Technology – paints, sealants, corrosion principals, coatings (chemistry competencies)
* Mechanical Testing
* Failure Analysis (metallic/composite structure)
* Stress, Fatigue and Damage Tolerance (not required for role – knowledge is a benefit)
* AutoCAD (not required for role – knowledge is a benefit)
* CATIA (not required for role – knowledge is a benefit)
