Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic band 7 Paediatric Physiotherapist to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.

East Lancashire Hospitals Paediatric Physiotherapy Department is dedicated to enabling children and young people to fulfill their physical potential in all aspects of life. We provide acute inpatient services to paediatric medical wards and the Neonatal Unit, as well as community services managing neurological, developmental, genetic, orthopaedic, MSK, and respiratory needs.

The post holder will lead the early years and Neonatal pathway, providing staff support, service development, and delivering physiotherapy care on the Neonatal Unit, including community follow-up care.

You will be supported to develop your clinical knowledge and leadership skills. Prior experience is required, but additional training and development will be provided.

Main duties of the job

Act as the Clinical Lead within multidisciplinary teams, providing expert assessment skills and interactions within the patient group.

Provide operational and line management to a team, ensuring effective, safe, and personalized service delivery.

Contribute to strategic, operational, and clinical development of the service. Provide training and support to healthcare professionals and stakeholders. The service operates Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with on-call requirements.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Communication

* Communicate professionally with patients, families, and professionals using various mediums.
* Advocate for patients.
* Handle challenging situations with conflict resolution skills.
* Address HR issues with support from HR and management.
* Support team communication tailored to individual patient needs.

Training and Development

* Ensure mandatory training compliance.
* Take responsibility for own and team development using training needs analysis.
* Supervise and provide feedback to team members.
* Deliver training to students, junior staff, and colleagues.
* Participate in research and development activities.
* Provide training to undergraduate and postgraduate health care students.
* Update guidelines and educational resources based on evidence and standards.

Organizational Responsibilities

* Implement trust and directorate targets, guidelines, and strategies.
* Contribute to service development plans.
* Manage team duties including rostering, appraisals, supervision, and support.
* Lead planning, coordination, and evaluation of clinical services.
* Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
* Manage performance across quality, delivery, finance, and people metrics.
* Lead recruitment, retention, and staff development efforts.
* Involve service users and carers in service evaluation.
* Deputize for Clinical and Operational Service leads.

Person specification


Experience and qualifications

* Profession-specific Degree/Diploma.
* Registration with HCPC.
* CPD portfolio evidence, including postgraduate courses.
* Management or leadership training.
* Significant postgraduate experience in a relevant role.
* Expertise in managing complex patients in the clinical area.
