Job Overview
Full‑time Band 5 Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) – General Scrub Team at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, Wrexham, North Wales.
Wrexham Maelor Hospital hosts 13 theatres supporting specialisms such as orthopaedics, colorectal, ENT, urology, gynaecology and upper gastrointestinal. The successful candidate will work across adult and children’s peri‑operative journeys and gain experience in maternity care and outlying areas such as MRI and resuscitation.
The post holder will work collaboratively with the multi‑disciplinary team, meeting the needs of the patient while working independently. Responsibilities include management and organisation of clinical and satellite areas, implementing improvements identified through audit and clinical trials, and participating in the education and development of staff members and students.
Main Duties
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence‑based patient care.
* Utilise clinical expertise throughout the peri‑operative period.
* Provide skilled assistance in surgery and, where qualified, in anaesthetic care.
* Support recovery and other satellite areas such as X‑ray and obstetrics.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge – Essential
* NMC or HCPC registration and degree‑level qualification in Operating Department Practice.
* Accredited level 5 certificate or module in anaesthetic care if applying for an anaesthetic role.
Desirable Qualities
* Teaching, mentoring or assessing qualification.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Experience in a range of clinical specialities within the operating department.
* Ability to speak Welsh.

* Knowledge of theatre environment and its processes.
Aptitude and Abilities – Essential
* Consistently demonstrate high‑quality patient care.
