The Scientist I role involves performing routine and investigative analyses to ensure project completion aligns with customer contracts. Responsibilities include chemical analysis, reporting, supervising junior staff, occasional client contact, and administrative support. The focus is on chromatography, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis, particularly G C and GC-MS techniques.

The position is primarily based at RSSL sites on the Reading university campus, with potential attendance at other sites or laboratories as needed.

Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

Technical

* Provide high-quality customer service by organizing workload, ensuring data integrity, and delivering accurate results.
* Perform routine analysis using chromatography, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis with minimal supervision.
* Follow protocols for method validation.
* Conduct basic maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
* Check transcription for factual data and review non-GMP projects on LIMS.
* Proficient in using software such as LIMS, Q-Pulse, etc.
* Train team members in routine activities and methods.
* Manage elements of specific projects or laboratory/sample administration as required.
* Work across different laboratories if needed.

Communication & Influence

* Work effectively within an analytical team.
* Assist in preparing client quotes.
* Deliver internal presentations.

Leadership and Supervision

* Supervise and train junior team members.

QEHS

* Adhere to safety and quality standards, including COSHH, risk assessments, and SOPs.
* Complete quality actions promptly.
* Assist with SOP documentation, risk assessments, and COSHH.
* Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
* Comply with GMP and UKAS requirements.
* Keep training records accurate.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Language Requirements:

* Degree in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent experience.
* Understanding of basic lab equipment.
* Accountable, honest, hardworking, and team-oriented.
* Flexible and adaptable.
* Detail-oriented with good instructions-following ability.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Self-motivated, enthusiastic, quick learner.
* Organized, capable of multitasking.
* Proficient in MS Office.
* Experience with GC and GC-MS systems.
* Knowledge of chromatography, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis techniques.
* Experience in a regulated environment.
* Fluent in English.
