We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our Credit Underwriting Team in the role of Senior Manager, Secured Lending.
Reporting directly into the UK Head of Underwriting, you’ll lead a large team of Standard Underwriters across the UK and our Offshore locations in Hyderabad & Manila, who are responsible for assessing against our Standard residential and Buy To Let mortgage applications, including manual underwriting, affordability analysis, and risk-based decision making. You’ll work closely with our Secured Lending Product & Credit Risk Teams to help shape the future of our underwriting approach, working with new technologies to support quicker decisioning for our customers. In this role you’ll:
* Lead and develop your team of c.300 employees, working closely with the colleagues onshore and offshore to ensure a coordinated approach to enhancing client experience
* Bring inspirational leadership by describing, implementing, and embedding a culture of solid risk management, together with encouraging enthusiasm and commitment from your team
* Train and coach your team to make accurate lending decisions which consider a range of factors and circumstances to achieve good outcomes for both our customers and the bank
* Perform detailed affordability assessments and provide technical guidance to your team of Underwriters and relevant stakeholders
* Role model a continuous improvement culture by identifying process improvement and simplification and drive these forwards to optimise costs
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
* Mortgage underwriting experience with the ability to use advanced originations software
* A strong people manager who is able to inspire and motivate a similar sized team both on and offshore
* Ability to challenge process and always identifying areas of improvements, coupled with a strong background in change management
* Excellent decision-making, analytical, and communication skills
* Collaborative and calm under pressure, with a pragmatic approach to risk
