Job description

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and committed Assistant Educational Psychologist to join the EPS in Neath Port Talbot Council. In this role, you will play a crucial part in reinforcing a needs-led approach to supporting learners, working within the framework of the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act 2018 (ALNET Act). You will contribute to the Directorate's mission to empower children, young people (CYP), parents, carers, and schools by helping them understand and build on individual learning profiles, celebrating strengths and differences within an inclusive, neurodiverse society.
As an Assistant Educational Psychologist, you will work alongside educational psychologists to develop and implement tailored intervention strategies. You will also take an active role in delivering training and workshops to build capacity in educators and families.
A key aspect of the role involves collecting and analyzing data to assess the effectiveness of interventions, ensuring that the support provided has a measurable positive impact on the educational outcomes of CYP. You will also advocate for their needs. Working closely with other professionals, you will help schools implement person-centred approaches, ensuring that educational provision is driven by the needs of the individual.
Do you have:
1. A BPS-accredited degree in psychology (or equivalent) and have a strong commitment to pursuing a career as an educational psychologist, including plans to apply for the doctoral training programme.
2. Strong organizational and communication skills, as well as experience working with CYP in educational or clinical settings.
3. Familiarity with inclusive education practices and the ALNET Act.
4. The ability to demonstrate empathy and sensitivity in your interactions with CYP and their families, whilst also working collaboratively with colleagues from across health and education sectors.
We would welcome those with experience in the following roles:
5. Experience working with CYP in educational or clinical settings.
6. Experience in developing and implementing psychological advice and support.
7. Exposure to multidisciplinary teamwork and collaboration with other professionals.
8. Appreciation of the construct of neurodiversity and its implications for educational practice.
9. Familiarity with the ALNET Act and its focus on person-centred approaches.
10. Knowledge of inclusive education practices and the new curriculum in Wales.
11. Awareness of evidence-based intervention strategies for CYP with diverse learning needs.
12. Familiarity/understanding of the role of an educational psychologist and innovative practice that can make a difference to the inclusion of babies, children and young people.
