Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced haematology nurse to join our growing team of nurse specialists in our apheresis service.
Our nurse-led unit is highly specialised in the treatment of sickle cell disease and other conditions that require apheresis. The role involves clinical and administrative responsibilities, supporting an increase in apheresis activity. We provide planned and emergency exchanges in our day unit and off-site, including maternity and critical care units. We also perform therapeutic plasma exchange and cell collections. We are one of the UK's largest centres for sickle cell disease. We seek someone enthusiastic with experience and skills in Haematology and apheresis, who is caring, dynamic, and committed to support others.
The apheresis service manages local and UK-wide patients seeking specialised treatments. You will work with a team of Consultants, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Specialist Nurses, deputy nurses, and the day unit team.

Main duties of the job
The clinical nurse specialist will coordinate and operate apheresis, contributing to a positive patient experience and a well-established service. They will provide expert knowledge, clinical oversight, and role model evidence-based care. The role includes becoming an expert in cannulation, supporting ultrasound-guided procedures, and inserting femoral lines when necessary. Administrative duties include updating SOPs, clinical guidelines, and planning for JACIE accreditation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The role involves providing expert treatment, care, and support for patients undergoing Apheresis, working autonomously and as part of multidisciplinary teams. The post includes strategic planning, research, education, and continuous quality improvement. Opportunities for professional development include modules in Advanced Assessment, sedation, Life Support, blood authorisation, and a Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice. Essential skills include interpersonal skills, senior nursing experience, and knowledge of apheresis and haematology. Previous experience and evidence of ongoing professional development are required.
