Job Overview
Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Acute Care Inpatient Psychiatry. Ablett Unit hosts two adult wards: Dinas Female (10 beds) and Dinas Male (10 beds), plus an S136 suite. The unit also contains an 8‑bed male locked rehabilitation ward (Cynnydd) and a 10‑bed older persons functional ward (Tegid). The Adult Acute Care service covers 20 adult beds and the Home Treatment Team (HTT), which can accommodate approximately 25 patients at any one time. Admissions come from community CMHTs or general hospitals via the Psychiatric Liaison Service. The consultant provides Responsible Clinician oversight for roughly half of the adult acute care service, including 10 beds and half of the HTT patients, alongside the other Substantive Approved Clinician.
Key Responsibilities
* Serve as the treating consultant for inpatients on Dinas Male, Dinas Female, and HTT admissions.
* Provide medical oversight and supervise junior doctors attached to the post.
* Lead the multidisciplinary team and maintain continuity of care and discharge planning.
* Deliver patient‑centred, recovery‑based care in line with the Mental Health Measure (Wales) 2010 and local policies.
* Act as Responsible Clinician for patients admitted under the Mental Health Act.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Essential: MB BS or equivalent medical qualification; fully registered with GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment; on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT; approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months; approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months.
* Desirable: qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management; MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists; Welsh AC Approval.
Eligibility
* Essential: fully registered with GMC; on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT; approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months; approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months.
* Desirable: in good standing with GMC regarding warning and conditions on practice.
Clinical Skills
* Essential: evidence of training in core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry.
* Desirable: experience leading a multidisciplinary team; experience in community psychiatric practice.
