Role: Senior Healthcare Assistant

Location: Brighton

Full time: 37.5 hours per week

Shift times: Monday to Friday

Contract: Permanent

Salary – £27,222 to £29,000 depending on experience

We’re looking for a Senior Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and supportive Primary Care Team based at our beautiful clinic on a client site.

As a Senior Health Care Assistant (SHCA), you will play a pivotal role in conducting detailed health assessments and screenings aimed at promoting employee health and wellbeing across various corporate settings. This position requires a combination of technical expertise and clinical skills, as you will perform a range of diagnostic tests—including electrocardiograms (ECGs), lung function assessments, audiology, posture evaluation, blood sample collections, and other diagnostic procedures. Additionally, you will ensure smooth operational workflows within the clinical environment.

You will support junior members of the team and will be expected to contribute to the line management of junior team members as part of your duties.

This is a really interesting role as you will be able to use your skills to carry out a range of clinical duties including:

What you'll do:

1. Perform 12-lead resting and exercise ECG tests (e.g., Bruce protocol) as part of corporate medical screenings and specialized assessments.

2. Conduct lung function spirometry tests to assess respiratory health and capacity.

3. Collect blood samples through phlebotomy for laboratory testing.

4. Administer audiology tests to assess hearing capabilities.

5. Evaluate posture and mobility to assess physical fitness and mobility.

6. Conduct drug and alcohol tests, including Chain of Custody urine testing, to ensure compliance with legal and health standards.

7. Perform urine analysis to screen for metabolic and systemic disorders.

8. Measure essential health indicators, including height, weight, body composition (BMI), and tissue hydration assessments.

9. Conduct mini health assessments, including checks for blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol levels, providing basic information about test results to patients.

10. Obtain valid informed consent for assessments and treatment interventions in compliance with national and local policies,

11. Apply infection control measures within the practice according to local and national guidelines to ensure patient safety.

12. Make accurate entries in patients' medical records following local and national policies, ensuring that all information is up-to-date and comprehensive.

13. Utilise various medical software systems to log patient data, test results, and clinical information efficiently.

14. Chaperone patients when required, providing support throughout their clinical experience.

15. Liaise with clinical staff to discuss test results and provide clear explanations about the findings.

16. Regularly monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels to ensure adequate supplies are available for patient care.

17. Educate individuals on the significance of health screenings, emphasising the impact of lifestyle choices on overall health.

18. Motivate clients to adopt healthy habits and make informed decisions regarding their health and wellbeing.

19. Take accountability for your legal and ethical responsibilities, including safeguarding practices, patient confidentiality, and data protection requirements (e.g., GDPR and Information Governance).

20. Participate in audits and inspections as directed, and reporting processes to uphold the highest standards of care and safety.

What you'll bring

21. Previous direct patient care experience within a healthcare setting

22. Ability to provide good quality care

23. Care certificate

24. NVQ level 2 in "Health and Social Care" or RQF Diploma in "Care"

25. Minimum Level 2 Safeguarding Course

26. Awareness of the need to focus on continuous quality improvement

27. Willingness to learn and a warm and friendly personality

28. Significant experience as a health care assistant / support worker patient care experience in a Primary Care setting, or Hospital, or Health and Wellbeing clinic / services.

Training and experience with a range of skills with diverse patient groups
