This is an exciting full-time (10 PA) Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatry post within Tameside and Glossop CAMHS, developed through additional investment to deliver a comprehensive CAMHS offer and strengthen capacity in line with local transformation priorities.

You will join a well-established multidisciplinary CAMHS team based at the purpose-built Springleigh clinic in Stalybridge, working alongside experienced Consultant colleagues and a strong senior leadership team.

The role offers work across Generic CAMHS and Neurodevelopmental Psychiatry pathways, including Intellectual Disability, alongside opportunities to be involved in specialised complex care pathways such as cared for children, eating disorders, and urgent care.

As part of a growing and supportive Consultant body (21 and expanding) with a large CAMHS Care Hub, you will be encouraged to shape service development, innovate, and influence system-wide pathways. The post is suitable for both newly qualified (post-CCT) and experienced Consultants.

* Provide Consultant psychiatric assessment and management for children and young people up to 18 within a Tier 3 CAMHS setting
* Work across Generic CAMHS and Neurodevelopmental Psychiatry pathways, including Intellectual Disability
* Contribute to specialised complex care pathways (e.g. cared for children, eating disorders, crisis/home treatment) based on service need and interest
* Hold clinical responsibility for a defined caseload and provide consultation to the multidisciplinary team and partner agencies
* Offer clinical leadership within the team, supporting triage, care planning, and risk management
* Work collaboratively with partner services including Social Care, Paediatrics, Education, and Third Sector organisations
* Participate in the Consultant rota, peer supervision, and provide cross-cover for colleagues
* Contribute to teaching, training, service development, audit, and quality improvement

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Detailed duties

Clinical

* Provide specialist psychiatric assessments and ongoing management for children and young people with moderate to severe mental health difficulties, including neurodevelopmental conditions
* Undertake direct clinical work and provide consultation, formulation, and guidance to multidisciplinary colleagues
* Hold clinical responsibility for a caseload, including new assessments and follow-up care, with cases often co-managed within the MDT
* Provide clinical leadership within agreed pathways (e.g. Generic CAMHS, Neurodevelopmental/Intellectual Disability, or other specialised areas based on interest and service need)
* Contribute to duty systems, risk assessment, and urgent care pathways as required
* Ensure high-quality clinical documentation, communication, and adherence to Trust policies and procedures

Teamworking and leadership

* Work as a senior member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to referral management, care planning, and CPA processes
* Provide clinical leadership and support to MDT colleagues, including supervision and case consultation
* Participate in regular team meetings, case discussions, and Consultant peer supervision forums
* Work closely with the borough leadership team and wider CAMHS Directorate

Partnership working

* Liaise effectively with partner agencies including Children’s Social Care, Paediatrics, Education, Youth Justice, and voluntary sector services
* Provide consultation and joint working across organisational boundaries to support integrated care

Teaching, training and supervision

* Contribute to the teaching and supervision of junior doctors, GP trainees, and other professionals
* Opportunity to take on educational or clinical supervision roles subject to experience and job planning

Governance, audit and quality improvement

* Work within Trust clinical governance frameworks, maintaining high standards of care
* Participate in clinical audit, service evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NICE guidance and best practice

On-call and cover

* Participate in the Consultant on-call rota as required
* Provide cross-cover for Consultant colleagues during leave

Professional development

* Engage in continuing professional development, appraisal, and revalidation
* Opportunity to develop special interests, research, or leadership roles aligned with service priorities and job planning

* Full GMC Registration

* Published research MRCPsych


Professional/Occupational Qualifications


Essential criteria

* Possession of CCT in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, or be within 6 months of achieving this or entered on the GMC Specialist Register
* Section 12 Approval under Mental Health Act 183, or be eligible for approval


Desirable criteria

* Otherpostgraduate degrees e.g. MSc, MD etc
* Experience in the use of the Mental Health Act (1983)

* Demonstrable competency across the PMETB approved curriculum for higher training in Child and Adolescent psychiatry
