The BioArCh facility within the Department of Archaeology is seeking to appoint a Grade 4 laboratory technician on a fixed-term basis. You will join a vibrant research community of academic members of staff, research staff, and post-graduate students. As a technician in BioArCh, you will develop valuable experience and skills alongside our expert technical team and contribute directly to our high quality research in archaeological science. The role will include operational, laboratory, and instructional duties. You will be instrumental in the continuous operation of the laboratory facilities, prepare a wide variety of archaeological samples for scientific analyses, and assist with training students and facilitating their projects. You will be responsible for aspects of maintaining laboratory inventory, administering our sample database and storage, carrying out health and safety duties, and managing goods in/out.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
You will have completed relevant A levels or HNC, while a completed undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. biology, archaeology, chemistry) is desirable. You will be familiar with working in a laboratory setting and have experience in applying health and safety procedures to your work, including CoSHH and risk assessments. You will have a track record of performing work to a high standard, and able to manage your own time effectively working independently and as part of a team. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and show a willingness to learn and develop while maintaining a positive and open attitude towards teammates.
