Youth Options has developed a reputation fordelivering high quality Outdoor Learning provision in the Eastleighand Southampton areas. The aim of our provision is to engagedevelop and empower children and young people to develop theirsocial and emotional capabilities and improve their engagement withlearning through naturebasedactivities.
Tasks
As theHorticulture Learning Leader (Horticulture Lead) you will lead themaintenance and development of the garden and growing space at ourOutdoor Learning Centre in Bishopstoke Eastleigh.
Inaddition you will lead the development and implementation ofhorticulture courses for children and young people engaging in ourprovision.
You will be part of a wider outdoorlearning team dedicated to supporting developing and engagingchildren and young people to realise their abilities aspirationsand make a valuable contribution to their communities throughhorticulture and naturebased learning. In addition to thehorticulture role you will be working across a number of projectsleading sessions to support young people in a variety of settingsincluding Itchen Valley Country Park New Park Farm and Schoolssites.
Occasional evening and weekend working will berequired
Requirements
Appropriatehorticulture qualification
Leading and managing thedevelopment of a garden/growing space
Leading horticultureactivities with children and young people
Working with atrisk or vulnerable children and young people
Experience ofdelivering a range of activities outdoors to children and youngpeople in
an outdoor settingKnowledge
Understanding of horticulture andgardening
Understanding of outdoor learning and forestschool theories and principles
An understanding of thediverse needs of socially excluded children and youngpeople
and the issues that lead to socialexclusion
Knowledge and understanding ofsafeguarding
Understanding of the principles and practicesof equality and diversity
Understanding of Health andSafety and safe working practice when working with young people andfamilies
