Due to increased demand, we are looking for a Health Care Assistant/Phlebotomist to join our friendly Practice family. Oswald Medical Centre is an award-winning Practice serving over 16,000 patients. We are based across 3 sites in Accrington, Oswaldtwistle, and Blackburn. We pride ourselves on our approach to providing caring services and offer a range of standard NHS and enhanced services including minor surgery.
We are seeking a competent Health Care Assistant/Phlebotomist who can work independently and as part of a team. The successful applicant should have previous experience working in a busy GP surgery, carrying out a variety of duties to meet the needs of the practice patients.
Main duties of the job
To provide high-quality care based on the needs of the Practice population, including treatment, screening, preventative care, and patient education. Assisting GPs, PN, and NA.
To manage patients with chronic disease, run specific clinic sessions, and support the maintenance of robust call and recall systems.
* Venepuncture and other skill-based tasks
* Home Visits to Housebound Patients to Manage Long Term Conditions
* Assist with Minor Surgery Aseptic Technique
* Address unmet needs of patients with LTC, including housebound patients
* NHS Health Checks
* Function as a chaperone when required
* Undertake health promotion to educate patients
* Weighing & Measuring Patients
* Undertake Opportunistic Screening
* Update Care Plans and inform all involved in the patient's care
* Provide individual advice on Smoking Cessation, Healthy Eating & Refer to in-house staff H&WBC, Social Prescriber
* Develop & Maintain Health Promotion Material with the Practice/Notice Boards
* Refer to other agencies as appropriate
* Apply Infection Control Measures according to guidelines; support patients and colleagues in infection control
* Safeguarding Adults/Children
* Be competent in Anaphylaxis and Resuscitation Techniques
* Assist with Flu Clinics
* Perform 24-hour ECGs after training

Person Specification
Experience
* Experience within a Primary Care Nursing Team
* Experience dealing with Vulnerable Patients
* Experience working in a GP Practice
Qualifications
* HCA & Phlebotomy Qualification or equivalent
* Training in chronic disease management
* GCSE Level or above
* Experience with Long Term Conditions
* Proficiency in Time Management, Confidentiality, Clinical Governance, and Health Promotion
* Knowledge of EMIS Web and Quality & Outcomes Framework
