Role Overview
As a Junior User Researcher you will join the growing Digital Excellence community, working closely with Product Managers, Designers, developers and other User Researchers to plan and conduct impactful research that deepens our understanding of our clients’ users.
Responsibilities
* Plan and conduct research that informs the development of digital services and products.
* Manage and support research activities, recommending appropriate methodologies based on project context and team priorities.
* Execute inclusive research with a wide range of users, including those with additional needs and hard‑to‑reach groups.
* Consider the end‑to‑end user journey and external factors (business, policy, technical) that shape user experience.
* Communicate findings to varied audiences—team members and stakeholders—in an actionable, effective manner that supports empathy building.
* Grow your user research skills through regular guidance, training and hands‑on experience.
Additional Growth Opportunities
* Business Development: lead or contribute to proposals, RFPs, bids, pitches, and client events.
* Internal Contribution: participate in campaigns, think‑tanks, whitepapers, practice and team events.
* Learning & Development: access training, certifications and career‑support programmes.
Required Profile
* Interest in user research and user‑centred design, with ongoing self‑led learning.
* Hands‑on experience of user research and understanding of a range of methods.
* Experience planning and conducting qualitative studies, including remote/in‑person interviews, diary studies, concept testing, and usability studies.
* Familiarity with quantitative methods such as surveys.
* Ability to integrate quantitative and qualitative insights.
* Data synthesis skills.
* Strong storytelling, stakeholder management, and facilitation skills.
* Awareness of agile delivery.
* Experience with Government Digital Service (GDS) service standards or an understanding of GDS design principles.
* Active Security Check (SC) clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
Desired Background
* Prior experience in a research‑focused professional role.
* Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, anthropology, Human‑Computer Interaction, or related UX fields.
* A passion for learning and technology.
* Understanding or interest in accessibility testing or inclusive design principles.
