Overview

Recruit to Train CBT Therapist within Mental Health Support Teams. Surrey Mental Health Support Teams in Schools has an NHSE funded Children and Young People (CYP) Psychological Training Programme (formerly CYP-IAPT). The post is a fully funded one-year training to obtain a Post Graduate Diploma in CYP-PT therapies (CBT) while delivering clinical work in the service.


Responsibilities

* Attend the funded training year and work within the MHST to deliver evidence-based CBT interventions for children, young people, and families.
* Provide direct work with CYP and families, offer consultation and advice to schools, and support Whole School Approach activities.
* Balance busy work and study commitments as a service employee enrolled on a postgraduate course (KCL).
* Travel to required locations as necessary, including attendance at university teaching sessions and training events.


Training Information

* Full-time training beginning January 2026; approximately 2.5 days per week for academic work and 2.5 days at the service.
* Trainees are employed by the service and enrolled on a Kings College London (KCL) Postgraduate Diploma course; upon completion, a KCL Postgraduate Diploma is awarded.
* Dual application process: apply for the post and a KCL course place; academic requirements include relevant experience and visa approval where applicable.


Qualifications

* Essential: postgraduate diploma-level academic capability; minimum second-class Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject; training in a mental-health related profession (e.g., psychology, social work, nursing, etc.).
* Experience: ideally at least two years working with children/young people in a mental health setting; safeguarding experience; multi-agency collaboration.
* Desirable: previous experience within a CBT framework.


Additional Requirements

* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as part of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 (as amended).
* Current UK professional registration.
* Valid driving licence and ability to drive with unrestricted use of a car or motorcycle for work purposes.
* Willingness to travel to Kings College London campuses for teaching during the training year.
