About the Role
We’re looking for an empathetic, organised and solution-focused Employment Specialist to join our friendly, vibrant team in High Wycombe.
This is an exciting opportunity to support adults, who are experiencing mental health difficulties, helping them to stay in work, return from sick leave or find new, meaningful employment.
You’ll be part of Waythrough’s Employment Service, embedded within Bucks Talking Therapies, working alongside clinicians to provide personalised, practical employment support.
Your focus will be empowering individuals to take control of their work situation (through information, guidance and encouragement). This is a fast-paced, light-touch service, typically offering up to four sessions of support per client.
What You’ll Do
1. Work with clients to set realistic employment action plans that align with their goals, needs, and values.
2. Provide person-centred guidance on employment issues such as job search, CVs, interviews, disclosure, and reasonable adjustments.
3. Support clients who are off sick to develop return-to-work plans, liaising with employers where appropriate.
4. Offer advice on workplace challenges such as workload, conflict, grievances, and bullying or harassment.
5. Facilitate small group workshops focused on confidence, wellbeing, and employability skills.
6. Maintain accurate and timely case notes and monitor outcomes against service targets (e.g. assessments completed per month).
7. Work collaboratively with NHS clinicians and other partners to ensure joined-up, effective support.
To Succeed in This Role, You’ll Need:
Recent experience in a relevant field such as mental health support, employability, HR, recruitment, education, or health and social care, and you’ll be passionate about helping people achieve their work goals in a way that supports their wellbeing.
You should also bring:
8. An understanding of mental health and the challenges faced by people at work.
9. Knowledge of the Equality Act and basic employment legislation.
10. Excellent communication, coaching and motivational skills.
11. The ability to manage a busy caseload and meet performance targets.
12. Strong problem-solving skills and a solution-focused mindset.
13. Good IT, administration, and record-keeping skills.
14. A collaborative, adaptable and empathetic approach.
Experience of networking with employers and delivering group sessions is desirable but not essential.
Please note: Appointments may run up to 7pm (Monday to Thursday) on a needs basis, with time off in lieu (TOIL).
This is a rolling recruitment process. Candidates will be interviewed as and when they are shortlisted. There will be a phone screen prior to invite to interview.
