This role ensures that project designs are delivered safely, on time, and in accordance with industry standards and DNO specifications from feasibility through to detailed design. It is a leadership position requiring close collaboration with DNO stakeholders, project managers, engineers, and sub-consultants to drive technical excellence, design integration, and efficient delivery. As a Lead Design Engineer, you will contribute to delivering multiple projects that support growth and deepen our impact within the utility engineering sector.
Responsibilities
* Lead design across electrical, civil, protection, and cable system disciplines for HV infrastructure or substation projects (11kV to 132kV).
* Ensure designs are safe, compliant with industry standards and DNO specifications from feasibility to detailed design.
* Collaborate with DNO stakeholders, project managers, engineers, and sub-consultants to drive technical excellence, design integration, and efficient delivery.
* Coordinate internal and external design teams to deliver multi-disciplinary designs on time and to the required quality.
* Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation, and technically robust, commercially efficient designs.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or related discipline).
* Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards chartership.
* Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams on HV infrastructure or substation projects (11kV to 132kV).
* Understanding of DNO design processes, policies, and approval pathways.
* Familiarity with relevant design software and tools for electrical engineering.
