Overview
Camphill School Glencraig is a small Independent School, serving children and young people with SEN and complex learning disabilities. We are part of the wider Camphill Community Glencraig. It is not a prerequisite for the successful applicant to be a qualified teacher. This position may also be suitable for those with a background or specialism in behavioural interventions in the field of learning disability and autism.

As part of Camphill School, Glencraig, the Class Teacher will enable students who have learning disabilities, autism and behaviour of distress and concern, to pursue a rich and varied school experience by supporting them with social, emotional, spiritual, and educational needs.
The Class Teacher will carry out the professional duties of a teacher and will have overall responsibility for the Education, Development and Care of students within their class and leading, developing and supervising their Teaching Assistant Team.

Salary and Employment Details

Salary: £39,457 per annum on a six-point scale
Hours: 40 Hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Annual Leave: 40 days annual leave pro rata plus Camphill Community Glencraig recognises 12 statutory days
Essential Criteria
* Bachelor of Education or Degree and PGCE
* or Degree with a Diploma in Curative Education and Social Therapy
* or Degree with a Diploma/Certificate in Waldorf Education
* or Bachelor Degree or equivalent in Psychology, Childhood Studies
* Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland
* or be eligible for registration on appointment
* A minimum of 4 years' teaching experience in a Special School/Unit within the last 6 years
* or A minimum of 4 years’ experience leading, delivering and managing life skills and development programmes in a special needs setting within the last 6 years
* Experience of teaching or coaching young people with complex needs who may display behaviour of distress and concern, where dysregulation leads to aggression to self or others
* Experience of specific teaching strategies suitable for those with ASC, MLD and SLD
* Experience in the management and effective deployment of educational support staff
* Knowledge of Learning Disability/Autism and associated conditions, such as social, emotional or sensory challenges
* Strong organisational and leadership skills
* A flexible, responsive approach to teaching and learning and understanding behaviour
* Ability to develop rapport quickly with individuals so that trust and confidence is established quickly
* Ability to deliver a range of educational experiences across a holistic curriculum to include Music, Art, Drama and Crafts
* Understanding of, and willingness to actively support and promote the Camphill ethos and the associated pedagogical approach
* Demonstrate the ability to take initiative, to motivate others and effectively model best practice
* Strong effective communication skills both orally and in writing
* Able to fulfil the Occupational Health requirements for the post—the post may require the use of physical intervention skills and an active outdoor programme including extensive walks
Desirable Criteria
* Post Graduate/Level 5 and up qualification in Atypical Development, SEN, Positive Behaviour Support or similar
* Experience of working within a Camphill School or a Steiner Waldorf School
* Ability to demonstrate the link between the Waldorf curriculum and the Northern Ireland curriculum
* Show evidence of further study and/or qualifications relating to working with people with a learning disability
* Demonstrable experience of using language programmes/strategies to communicate with students with communication challenges e.g. Makaton
* Demonstrable experience of writing Personal Learning Plans
