Job Description
4 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified professional to lead a team of Building Control Officers in ensuring compliance with Building Regulations across a wide range of developments.
• The post holder will work closely with regulatory bodies, enforce legislation, and ensure the safe and compliant construction of buildings in a dynamic urban environment.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Lead and manage a team of Building Control Officers, ensuring timely and compliant delivery of plan assessments and site inspections.
• Act as a key liaison with the Building Safety Regulator, supporting multi-disciplinary teams and contributing to operational KPIs.
• Provide technical leadership on complex and high-rise building projects, offering regulatory advice from pre-submission to project completion.
• Enforce Building Regulations and associated legislation, including dangerous structures, demolitions, and safety at sports grounds.
• Develop and implement service delivery policies, quality systems, and performance monitoring frameworks.
• Produce detailed quotations and service-level agreements to maintain market competitiveness.
• Manage workloads, allocate tasks based on officer competencies, and ensure compliance with statutory timeframes.
• Participate in emergency out-of-hours callouts, site inspections, and performance-related safety inspections at sports grounds.
• Support financial planning and monitor income and expenditure in line with service budgets.
• Deliver effective customer service and respond to complaints, public queries, and external stakeholder communications.

Skills/Experience:
• Extensive experience in Building Control, including high-rise, complex residential and commercial developments.
• Strong background in enforcement of Building Regulations and associated legislation, including demolitions and dangerous structures.
• Proficient in performance monitoring, reporting against KPIs, and using ISO-compliant quality systems.
• Experience supervising staff and allocating work based on competency bands.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to engage confidently with professionals and the public.
• Ability to manage change, influence team members, and mentor junior officers.
• Supervisory or management qualification.
• Familiarity with financial planning, budget monitoring, and income generation in a Building Control setting.
• Experience working with councillors or political stakeholders.
• Understanding of equal opportunities and inclusive service delivery.

Additional Information:
• This hybrid role offers a blend of office-based work and site visits, providing technical leadership, performance management, and quality service delivery for building control activities.
• Full professional qualification (RICS, CABE, CIOB, MIFE).
• LABC/CIOB Level 6 qualification or equivalent experience within Building Control.
• Proven competence to Specialist Level (including Class 3H) under the Building Safety Regulator’s Competency Framework.
• Driving Licence: Full, clean UK driving licence required.
