Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior Planner to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a M&E Senior Planner you will be a fundamental part of our Project Controls team, responsible for providing planning support and working with Project Managers, engineers and clients to develop and manage schedules to incorporate risk, change and resource requirements.
* Lead the M&E Planning team with key interface to other business units and lead, mentor, and coach the team of planning engineers across M&E and multi‑discipline scopes.
* Develop, control, monitor, analyse and report on schedule‑related aspects for the designated project.
* Establish and monitor resource‑loaded, logic‑linked baseline plans in accordance with project and corporate processes.
* Capture project budgetary costs and resources in the plan to determine time phasing of expenditure and the total project budget.
* Establish robust Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) in terms of project scope and execution strategy.
* Interface with other departments regarding the project’s activities that may have an impact and ensure that data is correctly captured and input into the schedule and portfolio.
* Ensure the project plan embraces the full scope, is fit for purpose and achievable.
* Maintain and control project baselines in line with client procedures and guidance.
* Lead on Earned Value Management (EVM) and practice within project schedules, challenging schedule and cost variances against the baseline plan and wider portfolio.
* Integrate third‑party schedules (vendors and subcontractors) and data into the overall project plan and work with external parties to aid successful delivery.
* Regularly interface and integrate with the project controls team to maintain an aligned portfolio via the Project Plan(s).
* Attend and guide progress meetings, build relationships, and maintain regular client / subcontractor contact.
* Discuss and review plans with management and stakeholders to identify priorities for construction and communicate strategy.
* Lead project risk analysis sessions and prepare risk mitigation plans.
* Ensure project documentation and files are maintained in line with company procedures.
* Prepare and present detailed planning information (Gantt charts, etc.) for use by the project team.
* Report slippages against project baseline and advise potential impact on project critical activities.
* Collate and disseminate data for monthly reporting.
* Oversee subcontractor schedules and reporting, including monitoring of contractor attendance and progress.
* Assist with people management and resource allocation for the project.
Key Qualities & Experience
* Experience across the project lifecycle (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, Commissioning).
* Excellent Primavera (P6) knowledge and experience, and experience in building cost and resource‑loaded plans.
* High level of numeracy and excellent analytical skills.
* Understanding of estimating, scheduling, programming and risk tools in the project controls market.
* Experience with Earned Value Analysis.
* Relevant experience in Project Controls and/or Project Delivery, preferably in a highly regulated environment.
* Ability to interact confidently with a project team.
