SMI are recruiting a Full Time Transport Manager at our Distribution Centre in Fareham. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving Operational improvements and supporting the strategic growth of the Transport function. Key projects and responsibilities will include: Projects: Review and identifying areas for improvement across the current fleet operation (6 x 3.5T vans), ensuring efficiency, compliance, and cost-effectiveness within the first 4-8 weeks Leading, in collaboration with the IT department, the implementation of automation between the company’s ERP system and MaxOptra to streamline transport planning and operational processes, with delivery targeted by Q2. Managing the planned expansion of the fleet from 6 vehicles to 12 within the next 18 months, supporting increased geographical coverage and service capability. Driver Management: Oversee driver administration including license checks, working time records, and medical declarations. Manage driver performance, compliance with hours and rest regulations, and defect reporting. Support disciplinary, absence management, and performance improvement processes. Vehicle Management: Ensure all vehicles are maintained in a roadworthy condition and serviced on time Verify insurance, height indicators, payload notifications, are up to date. Daily checks are completed by Drivers Operational Leadership: Manage depot transport operations to deliver on-time, efficient, and cost-effective service. Develop strong working relationships with Customers, Drivers, and Internal teams. Monitor budgets and cost controls Deliver “best in class” customer service and ensure operational excellence. Being able to Achieve KPI’s consistently Health, Safety & Compliance: Encourage a strong Health & Safety culture. Investigate and report incidents, accidents, and near misses. Provide the necessary coaching, guidance, and leadership to maintain a safe workplace for all staff and drivers. Key Skills & Experience Required: Candidates should be able to demonstrate: Proven experience in implementing and scaling transport operations across new geographical regions. Strong knowledge of multi-drop route optimisation, particularly within London and the surrounding areas, to maximise delivery performance and efficiency. The ability to produce clear and structured monthly reporting for the Operations Director and senior leadership team, supporting strategic decision-making and performance monitoring.
