The Role Leading and managing the Science department across KS3, KS4, and KS5 Driving high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment across all disciplines Developing and refining an ambitious, knowledge-rich Science curriculum Monitoring pupil progress and implementing targeted strategies to raise attainment Line managing and mentoring teaching and support staff within the department Overseeing laboratory compliance, practical provision, and health & safety standards Managing departmental budgets and resource allocation Contributing to whole-school improvement planning and leadership initiatives The Ideal Candidate Will Have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) A degree in a Science discipline Proven experience teaching Science at secondary level, including examination classes Prior middle leadership experience or readiness to step into a Head of Department role A strong track record of raising attainment and improving outcomes Excellent organisational, strategic, and communication skills The ability to inspire both staff and pupils within a high-expectations culture This Weymouth secondary school benefits from supportive leadership, structured systems, and a collaborative Science team committed to academic excellence and continuous development.
