Job Description
Location: Home-based with travel to sites across London.
Were looking for a proactive and collaborative Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial delivery of a major scheme or a portfolio of smaller projects across the London region. This role combines the flexibility of home-based working with meaningful on-site involvement, giving you the autonomy to manage your workload while working closely with operational teams, clients and key stakeholders to influence project success.
What you will do
* Promote and champion a safe working environment across all project activities.
* Prepare subcontract documentation and lead negotiations on terms, pricing and programme.
* Manage subcontract work packages, including interim assessments and change management.
* Issue commercial notices to clients and subcontractors in line with contractual requirements.
* Manage change effectively and prepare Compensation Event Quotations.
* Prepare, submit and agree monthly applications for payment with the client.
* Work collaboratively with engineering and operational teams to ensure accurate site records.
* Produce and present monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) and detailed commercial reports.
* Maintain robust forecasting, tracking and monitoring of all project expenditure.
* Manage subcontractor liabilities and use Oracle-based cost systems to monitor performance.
* Review and interpret internal expenditure reports with attention to detail and accuracy.
* Lead weekly progress and risk-reduction meetings with clients and subcontractors.
* Act ethically and professionally, applying the principle of "Doing the right thing" to maximise value responsibly.
* Provide contractual insight and support to estimating and bid teams when required.
About you
Were looking for someone who brings a combination of technical capability, sound judgement and effective communication. Ideally you will have:
* A relevant degree or substantial experience in a commercial role within construction.
* Experience managing large individual schemes or multiple smaller projects.
* CSCS card (appropriate to role).
* A solid understanding of standard forms of contract.
* Good IT skills, including Excel, Word and cost/contract management systems (CEMAR, Oracle).
* Effective communication, stakeholder management and negotiation abilities.
* A good understanding of construction processes and project delivery.
* Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
* Professional membership (MCIOB/MRICS) or working towards it is desirable.
