Overview
We are looking for an Experienced Senior Telecommunications Specialist with a strong operational and technical background across wireless and wired communication technologies, with demonstrated expertise in Wi-Fi systems, Cellular and Radio technologies, SDH/PDH multiplexing, Microwave links, LoRaWAN deployments and routing & switching. Also a proven track record supporting pre‑sales engineering (including PoC designs and builds), technical support, project delivery and design activities within Commercial, Government and MoD environments. Due to the nature of the role, this is an office based position only. This is an exciting opportunity within a fast based business.
Role and Responsibilities
Working with stakeholders to establish requirements, the Project Manager, Field Manager and Departmental Director for all resourcing and tasking requirements and engaging with the Sales team & control pre‑sales engineering requirements.
Support Cellular and Radio technologies, including integration, performance monitoring and optimisation across mobile and private networks.
Support SDH/PDH based transport networks and interfaces for legacy and modern telecom infrastructures.
Develop and support LoRaWAN IoT networks, including coverage planning, gateway deployment, and network server integration.
Design and support Microwave Point‑to‑Point/ Point‑to‑Multipoint systems for backhaul and connectivity solutions. Design & implement scalable and secure network architectures.
Evaluate & recommend networking technologies and equipment.
Configure, manage & troubleshoot routing & switching equipment across enterprise and service provider environments and technologies; inclusive of Layer‑2 and Layer‑3 routing protocols, VLANs.
Build, maintain and control all designs, configuration and policy documents.
Provide technical support both internally and externally, and identify and manage risks.
Assist with providing migration plans and ensuring governance and policies are met.
Manage and control Engineering department functions, such as Firmware change control, overseeing the wider team and engineering tasks/requirements and RMAs.
Employment History & Experience
The candidate will ideally hold a Batchelor's degree with a telecommunications discipline, or a related field and/or a minimum of 8 years experience within the telecommunications industry.
Delivered level 1‑3 technical support in fast‑paced environments, resolving customer issues related to connectivity, hardware/software faults and service degradations.
Engaged in pre‑sales engineering activities, including customer requirements capture, technical presentations, solution design, bill of materials (BOM) preparation and partner engagement.
Built and executed Proof of Concepts (PoCs) for customers to validate proposed solutions and technologies.
Led or supported telecom and network projects from inception through to delivery, including site surveys, design documents, installation, commissioning and test plans.
Produced detailed design documentation, including high‑level and low‑level designs, network diagrams, test specification and operational records.
Ensures all implementations complied with documented specifications, industry standards and client requirements.
Participated in tender processes, supporting proposals with technical input, pricing assumptions, solution architecture and compliance matrices.
Experience preparing formal responses to tender submissions and maintaining accurate design and document records throughout project lifecycles.

Wireless and Radio: Wi-Fi (enterprise), cellular interfaces, RF fundamentals, microwave link technologies.
Transport & Multiplexing
SDH/PDH fundamentals, optical and radio transport systems.
IoT Networks
LoRaWAN architecture and deployment.
Routing and Switching
Layer‑2/3 technologies ideally to CCNA level.
Network security
Experience with firewalls, VPNs and network security measures, current transport services, (EAD, Etherway as example).
PoC test setups and benchmarking
PoC test setups and benchmarking.
Documentation
High/low-level designs, BoMs, test plans, change control records.
Remote management platforms
Experience with remote management platforms, including deployment & support.
Test reports
Develop and control test reports.
Firmware change control
Manage and control customer base firmware change control.

Proficient in MS365 applications (Sharepoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio).
Experience utilising network design & architecture principles.
Security Clearance as a minimum (eligible to apply for SC).

Worked within Ministry of Defence (MoD) or equivalent security‑focused environments, adhering to strict process, documentation, compliance and security requirements.
Compensation
Basic Salary 40000- 55000 per annum depending on applicant experience.
20 days annual leave plus public holidays and birthday leave.
Pension scheme enrolment after 3 months.
