Our Water Management Consultancy operates at the interface between people and the water environment. We provide services across aquatic ecology, hydro morphology, river restoration, flood and coastal erosion risk management, integrated catchment management, regulation and assurance, strategic asset management, water resources and water quality planning, hydrogeology and hydrology, climate futures and resilience, coastal and marine environmental management, natural capital assessment and economic appraisal.
As a hydroecologist, you can expect to deliver river and wetland hydro ecological investigations and support the restoration and enhancement of aquatic systems, delivering tangible improvements within river catchments in the UK and overseas. You will work with our aquatic ecology team, water resource specialists and engineering design and planning colleagues to develop your career.
You should have a strong technical portfolio in hydro ecological investigation, including application of statistical modelling and processing/analyzing ecological monitoring and river flow data using hydrogeological tools. You will collaborate with other technical specialists and support projects through our growing portfolio of UK and international work. AtkinsRéalis offers opportunities to work on high-profile projects as part of a major engineering, environmental and design consultancy.
Responsibilities
* Support water resource investigations through the delivery of hydro ecological assessments.
* Develop the application of habitat and biological response models to hydro ecological investigations for key water company and regulatory clients.
* Support the development and application of emerging approaches to hydro ecological modelling and the technical development of staff within the aquatic ecology team.
* Undertake technical reporting and consultations for a wide range of projects, coordinating inputs from colleagues.
* Support in the delivery of a wide range of other environmental assessments (e.g., preliminary ecological appraisals, ecological impact assessments, Water Framework Directive compliance reporting and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments) on nationally important infrastructure projects throughout the UK, in collaboration with other AtkinsRéalis specialists and multi-disciplinary teams.
* Provide support to the national aquatic ecology team and wider business as we continue to grow our hydro ecological assessment capability.
* Support the team with winning work from internal and external clients.
What You Can Bring
* Experience undertaking hydro ecological and environmental assessments focused on freshwater habitats and species, with knowledge of programme, resource and financial management.
* A degree in a relevant discipline is essential; a postgraduate qualification (focus on Hydro ecology/Water-Catchment Management) with consultancy experience is desirable. Chartership with a relevant professional body is typically a prerequisite for appointment at this level.
* In exceptional circumstances, if not chartered, willingness to work towards chartership in the short term with support from Chartered colleagues within AtkinsRéalis.
* Demonstrated experience delivering hydroecological assessments for the water resource/water management sectors with the ability to present thorough technical investigations and concise evidence-based findings.
* Strong numeracy and IT skills relevant to modelling and data analysis; familiarity with software used in these tasks.
* Experience on large infrastructure projects as part of a multidisciplinary team and experience of conducting river and wetland habitat and aquatic ecological surveys; MoRPh survey accreditation is desirable.

This role may require security clearance. If required, offers of employment will be contingent on obtaining the appropriate clearance level.
