We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Thornton Heath, starting as soon as possible. The Role As a Year 1 Teacher, you will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing lessons across the Key Stage 1 curriculum. You will support pupils’ academic progress while also focusing on their social, emotional, and behavioural development. A strong emphasis is placed on phonics, early literacy, numeracy, and developing independence. You will work closely with teaching assistants, KS1 colleagues, and parents to ensure pupils receive consistent support and are able to make a confident transition from EYFS. You will also be responsible for monitoring progress, adapting teaching strategies, and delivering targeted interventions where required. Key Responsibilities Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons across the Year 1 curriculum Deliver engaging phonics, literacy, numeracy, and foundation subject lessons Support pupils transitioning from EYFS into structured KS1 learning Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and EAL Promote positive behaviour, independence, and confidence Maintain a structured, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment Track pupil progress and maintain accurate assessment records Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and KS1 colleagues Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding progress and wellbeing Contribute to staff meetings, CPD sessions, and whole-school initiatives Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will: Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Have experience teaching in Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1 Demonstrate strong classroom management and organisation Be nurturing, patient, and adaptable Show a strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing Work effectively as part of a collaborative and supportive team Location The school is located in Thornton Heath, with excellent transport links and a diverse, supportive local community.
