Role Purpose / Summary
The Risk Manager will play a key role in supporting the delivery and continuous enhancement of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Framework across the organisation. The role involves providing independent oversight, challenge, and assurance to ensure risks are appropriately identified, assessed, and managed within risk appetite. Working closely with stakeholders across Underwriting, Operations, Finance, and other business areas, the Risk Manager will help embed a strong risk culture and support effective risk-based decision making.
Key activities include contributing to the ORSA process, leading thematic risk deep dives, overseeing control effectiveness reviews, shaping risk reporting for senior management, and supporting the delivery of integrated assurance activities. The position also carries responsibility for mentoring junior team members, promoting knowledge sharing within the Risk function, and driving continuous improvement in the organisation’s approach to risk management.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain and enhance the organisation’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework, ensuring effective identification and management of key risks.
* Provide independent oversight and challenge to business activities, strategies, and controls.
* Contribute to the ORSA and risk appetite processes to support informed, risk-based decision making.
* Lead risk reviews, deep dives, and thematic assessments across operational and strategic areas.
* Deliver clear, insightful risk reporting and management information for senior leadership and committees.
* Partner with business functions to embed a strong risk culture and support regulatory and Lloyd’s-related requirements.
* Represent Risk on major projects and initiatives, providing effective challenge and guidance.
* Coach and mentor junior team members, promoting best practice and continuous improvement.
Skills and Experience
* Solid experience in enterprise or operational risk management, ideally within insurance or another regulated sector.
* Strong knowledge of risk frameworks, governance, and second line of defence principles.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide clear challenge and insight.
* Proven ability to deliver high-quality risk reporting and analysis for senior management and boards.
* Highly organised, analytical, and resilient, able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
* Experience with ORSA, risk appetite frameworks, or Lloyd’s market practices is desirable.
