School Caretaker Location: Secondary School, Harrow, North West London Contract: Full-time, Temporary Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience We are seeking a reliable, proactive and practical School Caretaker to join the site team at a large, well‑established secondary school in Harrow. This is a key role in ensuring the school site remains safe, secure, and welcoming for students, staff and visitors. The school benefits from extensive facilities, including specialist teaching areas, sports grounds, hall spaces and outdoor areas, many of which are used beyond the school day by the wider community. The successful candidate will take pride in maintaining high standards across the site and will play an important role in supporting the smooth day‑to‑day operation of the school. Key Responsibilities: Opening and securing the school site, including setting alarms and locking/unlocking buildings Carrying out routine maintenance, minor repairs and health & safety checks Maintaining cleanliness and general presentation of buildings and grounds Supporting contractors and monitoring works on site Preparing spaces for school events, examinations and community use Assisting with winter gritting, grounds maintenance and emergency call‑outs as required Supporting compliance with health & safety, fire safety and safeguarding procedures The Ideal Candidate Will: Have previous caretaking, site management or maintenance experience (school experience desirable but not essential) Be practical, hands‑on and able to carry out basic repairs and maintenance tasks Have a good understanding of health & safety requirements Be reliable, flexible and able to work independently as well as part of a team Be comfortable working in a busy school environment with young people Be willing to work occasional evenings or weekends to support school and community activities Have a valid DBS Check and 2 references from most recent employment We Offer: A supportive and professional working environment A varied and rewarding role within a vibrant school community Opportunities for training and development Job security within a well‑regarded local authority areaThis post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
