Responsible to: Head of Services Hours: 28 - 35 hours per week, flexible hours To include some evenings and weekends Additional hours available in school holidays Direct Reports: Delivery Managers and Sessional Staff Role Overview We are a Mid Sussex charity that supports over 400 families, providing clubs and activities for people with learning disabilities, including those with complex needs. With a growing waiting list and an ambition to expand our service by 30%, we’re looking for an exceptional nurse to lead and grow our Complex Care services. An ideal opportunity for a nurse who is looking to combine their medical expertise with hands-on, engaging experiences, whilst building meaningful relationships with our families and enhancing the quality of life for our members at Kangaroos. As our Complex Care Nurse Lead, you will be responsible for Kangaroos services for members with complex medical needs. This includes overseeing safe, high-quality clinical care, managing care plans, staff supervision, training and signing off competency of our sessional workers and ensuring full regulatory compliance. This role will have direct responsibility for leading certain Kangaroos clubs and activities, and will oversee other clubs and activities through line management of delivery staff. Main Duties Manage the delivery of safe, person-centred care for members with complex medical needs, to ensure high-quality service and support positive outcomes. Conduct staff training and signing off competency of our sessional workers. Assess member needs, developing care plans and determining appropriate staffing ratios. Ensure compliance with clinical standards and relevant legislation (e.g Ofsted, CQC, Safeguarding) including incident reporting, learnings and actions. Lead, manage and support the delivery team (staff, volunteers, agency staff, students etc), ensuring appropriate inductions take place and key Kangaroos policies and procedures are understood and implemented (safeguarding, reporting accidents / incidents, health and safety) Work with the Admin Team to manage member registers and waiting lists. With the Head of Service, design and lead safe, inclusive and engaging activities that reflect members' needs, interests and strengths, while maintaining a warm, caring and person-centred environment. Complete risk assessments for all activities, trips, venues and individual members' needs. Build and maintain effective working relationships with members, families and relevant stakeholders (venues, activity providers), ensuring members’ voices are heard and feedback is acted upon sensitively and constructively. Support staff well-being and development through coaching, training and regular team briefings. Provide effective staff supervision including working with HR on the recruitment of new staff, and working with the Head of Services in proactively addressing any performance concerns in a positive and timely way and in line with Kangaroos policies and procedures. Promote and contribute to a culture of collaboration and cohesion across Kangaroos small team, including participating in monitoring and evaluation activities. Participate in organisation wide planning activities, e.g. workshops, trips and transport, helping to ensure Kangaroos is working with the best quality partners and achieving maximum value for money. Work with Fundraising Manager on activities that have a fundraising element and support the community exposure of Kangaroos by participating in activities and providing feedback, photos, videos and case studies to demonstrate impact of Kangaroos work to current and new funders. Fulfil any other duties considered reasonable as directed by the Head of Services / CEO. Actively promote equal opportunities and challenge discrimination Requirements of the Job: Registered Nurse (RN) with a current NMC registration and valid pin Ability to work evenings and weekends as required Available during school holidays Able to drive, own a car Enhanced DBS check Right to work in the UK Person Specification Skills, Knowledge and Experience Substantial experience of working with people with severe and profound/multiple learning difficulties, disabilities, communication issues and behavioural challenges. Significant clinical experience of procedures such as catheterisation, enteral tube feeding, suctioning, stoma care and oxygen administration. Experience in leading and motivating a team, including developing team members and addressing people management issues. Passion for teaching, training and mentoring staff, with an ability to transfer clinical knowledge in an engaging way. Relevant experience and knowledge about the provision of inclusive practice and a commitment to providing this for all people within an equal opportunities framework. Able to demonstrate, through experience and/or qualifications, an understanding of safeguarding issues and a commitment to safeguarding responsibilities. Experience of multi-agency working. Familiar with IT systems, ideally Google Drive and maintaining databases Knowledge of relevant behaviour management strategies, e.g. Team Teach, PROACT SCIPr Personal Attributes Team player Warm, consistent, empathetic, open and accessible Ability to lead, manage and inspire a team, role modelling positive behaviours Eagerness to learn and to improve and develop services Confident communicator, calm under pressure Benefits Package We offer competitive salaries with annual reviews.
