Early Career Departmental Lecturer in Social Anthropology

SAME, Banbury Road, Oxford


About the Role

The School of Anthropology & Museum Ethnography seeks to appoint a full-time, fixed-term Departmental Lecturer in Social Anthropology from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2029. This three-year career development post is intended to support an early-career academic in developing their teaching and research profile within a vibrant and supportive academic environment.

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, marking, and administration across the MSc/MPhil Social Anthropology and BA Archaeology & Anthropology programmes. Alongside teaching responsibilities, the postholder will pursue independent research, contribute to seminars and conferences, and develop publications and external funding applications.


About You

You will hold a doctorate in Social Anthropology or a closely related field and be within five years of completing your doctoral viva (excluding eligible leave periods). You will demonstrate strong teaching ability at undergraduate and postgraduate level, experience in qualitative research methods, and clear potential for high-quality publications and future research development. You will also have excellent communication skills and the ability to support and supervise students effectively.
