Overview
Our Administration Officers play a critical role, providing excellent telephony and administrative support to court users, judiciary, mediators and management. The Tax Chamber handles appeals against decisions made by HMRC relating to a range of taxes, duties and statutory payments. We also handle some appeals relating to goods seized by HMRC or Border Force, and decisions made by the National Crime Agency. Our administrative teams in Birmingham are the core of our National Services.
Responsibilities
* Data entry of paper and digital work, telephony, customer complaints and correspondence.
* Liaise with judges, both via email and telephone.
* Progress cases through the Court system and provide support to other functions within HMCTS.
* Be the voice of our customers, giving them opportunity to make changes that matter to our users.
* Carry out general administrative duties in a team to progress cases or support other functions; may contact other courts and venues as cases are listed for hearing.
Your Skills And Experience
* Friendly and approachable with good written and verbal communication skills; desire to deliver proactive and effective support to customers.
* Attention to detail; accurate data entry into databases; ability to adapt to various software packages.
* Organised, able to prioritise, and able to multi-task in a busy environment.
Working Arrangements
These operational roles are customer facing, requiring office-based work. Non-contractual hybrid working may be available; hybrid arrangements determined by business needs. Standard full-time hours are 37 per week. MoJ Flexible Working policy applies; part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns will be considered.
Skilled Worker Visa
From 22 July 2025, government changes affect Skilled Worker visa eligibility. This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for sponsorship for first-time Skilled Worker visa applications under current immigration rules. If you have held a Skilled Worker visa continuously, eligibility will be assessed during vetting checks.
