Health, Safety and Wellbeing - Fire and Emergency Preparedness Specialist

The Civil Works Alliance is seeking a Fire and Emergency Preparedness Specialist to support the success of the Sizewell C Project, a major nuclear infrastructure development.
The Fire and Emergency Preparedness Specialist will deliver all aspects of Integrated Emergency Management (IEM), including anticipating threats, assessing and preventing risks, preparing for effects, responding to emergencies, learning from incidents, recovering, and validating procedures. You will support HSW Managers and operational teams to ensure compliance with fire and emergency preparedness arrangements and legal obligations.
Key Responsibilities
* Review and update the CWA Incident Management Plan, recommending procedural changes as needed.
* Design, implement, and evaluate drills and exercises to ensure response readiness against prioritized threats and hazards.
* Conduct Horizon Scanning for the first four elements of IEM: Anticipation, Assessment, Prevention, and Preparation.
* Coordinate with site emergency response teams, SZC Fire & Rescue, Medical Response teams, G4S Security, and Site Operations.
* Motivate, coach, and support project management teams to deliver fire and emergency preparedness requirements.
* Identify and leverage joint learning, training, drilling, and exercising opportunities with emergency services.
Skills & Experience
* Supervising teams in fast-paced operational environments.
* Planning risk-based exercises and research skills.
* Providing emergency management advice to senior leaders.
* Knowledge of Incident Controller and Emergency Marshal roles.
* Familiarity with SZC's Trauma Medical Immediate Care syllabus and advanced first aid.
* Understanding UK Health and Safety Legislation (e.g., Construction Regs 2015, Confined Space Regs, Civil Contingencies Act).
* Knowledge of Nuclear Site Licensing Conditions (LC 11, LC 8).
* Experience with Confined Space rescue (C&G Level 2 & 3).
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Proficiency with rescue equipment for height and depth rescues.
