The Pickering Group is a family‑owned, UK‑based electronics manufacturer established in 1968, specialising in high‑quality switching, simulation and relay products for industries such as aerospace, automotive and defence.

The Procurement Assistant reports to the Procurement Manager and supports the daily acquisition of both direct and indirect purchases, while maintaining accurate procurement records, liaising with suppliers and collaborating with cross‑functional teams.


Key Responsibilities

* Issue and manage RFQs for electronic components and analyse supplier quotations.
* Process purchase requests through X3, MRP suggestions, inter‑company orders and non‑stock part requests.
* Ensure accurate data entry into the X3 ERP system for order acknowledgements and updates.
* Run MRP functions on X3 and address procurement needs as required.
* Manage the "purchaseorders@pickeringtest.com" inbox, responding to enquiries promptly.
* Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, resolving issues related to deliveries, pricing or order discrepancies.
* Collaborate with production, R&D and engineering to update on order status and delays.
* Attend daily meetings to address potential challenges and align with overall operations.
* Assist with process improvement and cost optimisation initiatives using supplier and internal data.
* Provide general support to the procurement team with ad‑hoc tasks to ensure smooth departmental operation.
* Maintain accurate records in the ERP system, including new parts, supplier information and manufacturing part numbers.


Required Qualifications

* Education: GCSE Maths & English A–C.
* Experience: 2+ years in a similar role; full in‑house training will be provided.
* Technical Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP systems (Sage X3 preferred).


Preferred Qualifications

* CIPS Level 3 or higher (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) is highly desirable but not required.

* Ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure – managing tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

* Problem solving – addressing delivery delays, stock shortages or order specification discrepancies.
* Team player – collaborating with cross‑functional teams, including production, finance and stores.
