Job overview
We are looking for a Band 5 Pharmacy Technician, registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, to join our department. The post holder will be actively involved in delivering a clinical ward service within the hospital and contributing to a wide range of other Pharmacy services, including Dispensary services and Medicines Management. The successful applicant will be a dedicated, hardworking individual who works well in a team environment as well as under their own initiative. Attention to detail and organisational skills are essential.
Main duties of the job
* Perform ward based medication reconciliations. Identify and document any medication discrepancies, referring to the ward pharmacist, GP, or medical team when necessary.
* Assess the suitability of patients own medicines for use in Hospital.
* Check patient locker contents and other individual patient medication for supply by the dispensary, liaising with the ward Pharmacist.
* Check TTA prescriptions against patients own drugs, arrange for further supplies to be dispensed if necessary and remove discounted medicines.
* Counselling of patients on new drugs as required.
* Dispense inpatient and discharge prescriptions. Process prescriptions using the Pharmacy stock control and ePrescribing system.
* Final check clinically screened prescriptions and orders prepared by other Pharmacy staff before release to the patient.

* Dispensing and issue of prescriptions
* Advice to patients and carers, including discharge counselling
* Supply of medicines to wards
* Liaising with external colleagues including GP's, community pharmacies, ward pharmacists, nursing staff, dispensary and stores colleagues in order to supply appropriate medication for ward use and for patient use.
* To undertake medicines reconciliation in line with departmental procedures and policies.
* To perform accuracy checks on dispensed and ward stock items prepared by other staff.
Person specification
* Significant experience of technical pharmacy service delivery post qualification acquired through NVQ3 in Pharmacy Services or BTEC equivalent level qualification plus specialist training and experience to degree or equivalent level.
* Experience of working in a similar role.

Knowledge
* Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
* Knowledge of Medicines Management
* Knowledge and understanding of Pharmaceutical technical procedures specific to the area of work
Qualifications
* Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Services Skills (NVQ) or equivalent qualification
* Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

* Demonstrates continued professional development or equivalent knowledge through experience
* Flexibility in working hours to suit the needs of the department

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
