The criminal department is well-established and handles a broad range of both legally aided and privately funded matters. The team is known for its supportive culture, technical expertise, and commitment to achieving the best outcomes for clients.
The Role
You will manage a varied caseload covering all aspects of criminal defence work, acting for clients from the police station stage through to court proceedings.
Responsibilities will include:
1. Police Station representation
2. Magistrates' Court advocacy and case preparation
3. Crown Court preparation
4. Advising and supporting clients throughout criminal proceedings
5. Participation in the firm's out-of-hours rota
6. Opportunities to undertake Regulatory work for candidates with an interest in expanding their expertise
About You
The ideal candidate will:
7. Be a qualified Solicitor with at least 1 year PQE in criminal law
8. Ideally hold Duty Solicitor status, although strong criminal solicitors will also be considered
9. Have experience gained within an established criminal law department
10. Be confident handling police station, Magistrates' Court, and Crown Court matters
11. Demonstrate excellent client care and advocacy skills
12. Enjoy working as part of a collaborative and supportive team
