Linux Engineer - £60,000 - Bristol (On-site, 5 days/week)
Join an international leader in technology services as a Unix/Linux Support Engineer, keeping critical systems running smoothly for a major defence programme. You'll be hands‑on with Solaris (10 & 11, ideally 8 & 9 too) and Linux (Red Hat) environments, solving complex technical problems and making a real operational impact.
What you'll do
* Monitor, maintain, and support Unix/Linux systems in production & dev environments
* Resolve incidents, service requests, and system alerts in line with SLAs
* Perform patching, updates, and routine system checks to optimise performance & security
* Troubleshoot software, hardware, and connectivity issues for end-users
* Manage user accounts, permissions, file systems, and security best practices
* Write scripts (Bash/Python) to automate processes and improve efficiency
* Create and maintain technical documentation
* Provide on‑call support on a rota
What you'll bring
* Proven Unix/Linux support & admin experience
* Solaris (10 & 11, ideally 8 & 9 too) + Linux Red Hat
* Scripting skills in Bash or Python
* Experience with Ansible, Docker/Mirantis/Podman, and VMware tools (VROPS a bonus)
* Strong troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and customer service skills
* Ability to translate technical details for non-technical users
Eligibility
Sole UK nationals only
Must be SC clearance eligible
Able to work on‑site in Bristol 5 days/week
Salary: £60,000 + benefits
