This post is for Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Emergency Medicine Services at Preston and Chorley are unified under a single Directorate and cover both sites.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is renowned for our teaching, training and support with modern educational facilities and simulation suites. Within the department there is a current FCEM examiner as well as consultants with special interests such as simulation or ultrasound. There will be a designated Consultant supervisor for the duration of the rotation.
Clinical duties will include all those duties normally expected of a Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine (level 4 and above) in the UK, and will account for the majority of the appointee’s time.
In addition the appointee will be expected to take part in the formal teaching and on-going audit programmes within the directorate. Admin time will be allocated from the clinical component of the post.
Some other duties include
* Provision of primary medical care to patients suffering recent injuries and acute medical and surgical conditions of sudden onset, occurring in circumstances where it is not practical to seek the assistance of their General Practitioner
* Timely review of patient’s results and investigations when returned to the department
* Pre-hospital treatment of trauma victims and those suffering from acute illness.
* Treatment of patients referred to the departments by General Practitioners usually excluding those referred directly to the medical, surgical or other specialist departments.
* To be aware of the contents of the Trust Major Incident Plan and be able to carry out the relevant roles as determined by the Plan.
* Provision of advice to members of the general public who contact the department by telephone or in person.
