Humanitarian Policy Adviser – MENA
Location: London (hybrid between home and Head Office, EC2Y 9AL)
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 35 hours per week (Mon - Fri)
Salary: £39,285 – £40,893 (plus London Weighting, £3,344, if applicable) per annum
Responsibilities
You’ll support the development and implementation of BRC’s Humanitarian Policy and Diplomacy (HD) agenda in the MENA region. The role focuses on the following thematic areas:
* Principled humanitarian action
* Localisation
* Resilience and climate change
* Migration and displacement
This role touches on a number of these areas as they relate to MENA, with an additional focus on HD in emergencies within the region. A key function is to deliver high‑quality advice and diplomacy on complex humanitarian policy matters related to the MENA region, working closely with National Societies and other Movement actors.
The work you will do is crucial to the organisation’s mission and vital to the lives of those in crisis. Your skills directly contribute to supporting our humanitarian efforts, making a real difference in the lives of those we aim to help.
Qualifications
* Experienced in designing and delivering plans to drive forward policy recommendations, with excellent organisational, agility and project management skills.
* Adept in research experience, technical expertise and excellent analytical and influencing skills. Comfortable critically analysing humanitarian policy and practice.
* Insightful and able to analyse and interpret information to communicate and persuade decision makers; capable of negotiating, influencing and networking with decision makers and representing the organisation in external fora.
* Understanding of policy and decision‑making processes with experience in writing policy reports and briefings; strong grasp of the international humanitarian system and of international, regional and national policy frameworks.
* Collaborative and able to work closely with colleagues in different departments across the organisation; can build relationships with National Society partners in the region and the broader International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
* Professional proficiency in Arabic, including strong written and oral communication skills, is strongly desirable for this role.
