Job Introduction

Who are we and what do we do?

We are the Learning team for the BBC Proms and London-based BBC Orchestras and Choirs. We produce high-quality and creative learning experiences and content which offer as many people as possible the chance to engage with the music we make at the BBC. We are a team of people who love music and are committed to nurturing talent and championing engagement with live music. In line with the BBC's strategic objectives and the needs of music education in the UK, the team works to the following vision and aims:

Vision:

Our Learning programme aims to inspire a love of orchestral and choral music for the widest possible audience - we work with people on all kinds of musical journeys and prioritise working with those who may not see an obvious pathway into music as a listener, performer or creator.

We aim to:

* Provide inclusive access to orchestral and choral music for participants and audiences which reflect the diversity of the UK and London population (prioritising gender, ethnicity, disability and socio-economic backgrounds)
* Nurture and showcase musical talent of the future through practical engagement with the BBC and its broadcast platforms
* Support and amplify the work of the music education sector through partnership and collaboration
* Champion collaboration between our departments to maximise value for our audiences

Our programme includes national education and talent schemes BBC Young Composer (click here), BBC Open Music (click here) and BBC Ten Pieces (click here), as well as work with targeted communities across the UK. As part of the BBC's move to a new, purpose built music studio at East Bank on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford, our team are responsible for developing partnerships and community engagement programmes that connect with our new local community and deliver on the BBC's strategic objectives (click here).
