Team Leader - Multi-Disciplinary Team and Advice Line
Waverley Court

Salary: £37,626 - £44,257
Hours: 36 per week, 52 weeks

Poverty in Edinburgh is often obscured by wealth yet 17% of the population was deemed to be in poverty in 2023, including 20% of children. Poor health and education outcomes and homelessness can result from financial difficulties and Edinburgh Council is committed to tackling these issues through effective customer-focused services and partnership working.

Within the Household Support and Advice service, the Advice Shop is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual who will play a key role in delivering and improving services to tackle and prevent poverty and homelessness, two of the key challenges facing the city. Having a person-centred approach and being able to work effectively with a range of different services and people is critical to ensuring success in this role.

You will manage a range of roles including debt advisors, income maximisation officer, household support worker, housing officer and Advice Line supervisor.

As a representative of Household Support and Advice service you will attend various multi-agency and partnership meetings. You will have a good understanding of the role and remit of the service along with being an advocate for the values and approach of early intervention and prevention work.

You will be a multi-tasker, have good organisational skill, someone who can communicate with a broad range of individuals and groups including elected members and senior staff, and have an approach to your work that both supports and challenges staff to empower and enable them to reach their potential.

The right candidate will be educated to SVQ level 4 or equivalent, in a relevant discipline and have knowledge of the UK and Scottish benefit systems, debt and welfare rights advice as well as a good awareness of homelessness and housing issues. Being able to effectively manage and develop advice provision, have a focus on quality and able to create innovative solutions is what this role is about. You should have experience of delivering successful projects through partnership working and be able to deal with changing demands.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we're bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we're changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
