About the role
The Local Authority is looking for a proactive and technically minded Housing Officer to join the Housing Team, with a particular focus on housing adaptations.
This varied and rewarding role will centre on delivering Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) and other housing assistance schemes, working closely with Occupational Therapists, contractors, and residents to design and oversee essential adaptations such as level-access showers, ramps, and accessible kitchens.
You will also support wider private sector housing work to ensure that homes in Ceredigion are safe, healthy, and accessible, and assist with related compliance and enforcement activity.
Your key responsibilities will include:
1. Undertaking site visits and surveys, preparing AutoCAD drawings and Schedules of Works for competitive tendering in line with the Council’s procurement procedures.
2. Project-managing adaptation works through to completion, including on-site supervision and quality checks.
3. Liaising with Occupational Therapists, applicants, and contractors to ensure works meet individual needs and professional standards.
4. Assisting with grant applications from initial enquiry through to final payment, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for residents.
5. Supporting housing standards and enforcement work where required, to help maintain safe, healthy and accessible homes in the county.
6. Responding to enquiries and complaints in a professional and empathetic manner, keeping clear and accurate records.
About you
You’ll have a practical, solution-focused approach, good communication skills, and an eye for detail. Experience of housing adaptations, construction, or surveying would be an advantage, as would familiarity with AutoCAD.
The ability to speak Welsh is a requirement of the role; however, if you don’t currently meet this requirement, we’ll fully support you to reach the desired level within two years of appointment.
