Role Overview
Do you want to drive forward the circular economy and influence future waste legislation? We’re looking for a Senior Advisor to join our Producer Responsibility team to help deliver the Government’s Resources and Waste Strategy.
You will collaborate with Environment Agency colleagues, Defra, UK devolved administrations, and industry to implement significant legislative reforms. The role requires adaptability, self-motivation, and the ability to translate policy into action.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Working with stakeholders across government, industry, and the Environment Agency to influence and implement legislation on workstreams like Packaging and Deposit Return Scheme.
2. Providing technical advice within the Environment Agency and to industry.
3. Driving reforms in waste management to change how waste is managed in England, including shaping digital systems for waste management and policy development.
Our team is dispersed and collaborates across the country using smart tools, with some travel and overnight stays required.
The Team
You will join our Producer Responsibility Team, which leads waste regulation reforms to conserve resources and minimize waste. We promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture that values evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation to influence policy, legislation, and resource allocation.
Experience and Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds and cultures, actively encouraging diversity issues.
* Confidence in negotiating and influencing outcomes.
* Ability to build trusting, respectful relationships.
* Risk-based decision-making skills.
* Knowledge of environmental legislation, especially waste management laws.
* Drive to innovate and make things happen.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Development opportunities and training will be provided. The role offers flexible/hybrid working, with an EA Office base location. Some travel and overnight stays may be required.
