About the role
The Senior Category Development Manager plays a key role in strengthening Vinarchys category leadership with priority customers across EMEA. Reporting to the Category Controller, the role is responsible for owning the category relationship with two major customers, acting as the independent and objective voice of category.
The role delivers high impact category, consumer and shopper insight to inform range reviews, performance analysis and growth opportunities. Using a broad set of market and shopper data sources, the role translates insight into clear, actionable recommendations that support both customer objectives and Vinarchys commercial priorities.
Working in close partnership with Sales, Brand and Insight teams while remaining independent of sales direction the role supports brand planning, new product launches and customer engagement by turning insight into compelling, customer relevant category stories and executable opportunities.
Key Responsibilities Include:
* Direct Responsibility for two significant customers:E.g. Grocery Multiples & On Trade. Sole, and daily point of contact for all elements of our category relationship with these customers
* Act independent of sales: Your engagement with the customer is objective and stand alone. You do not follow the direction of sales.
* Be an expert in a wide set of tools:Market data Nielsen, CGA, IWSR (EPoS and Panel).
* Provide Consumer & Shopper Insight:our unique wine category segmentation and loyalty card data: e.g. DunnHumby, SIP, Hive, Quantium.
* Contribute to the Category insight plan:Identify what the customers' needs for insight are, what are their burning questions. Build a plan to deliver the insight that answers those questions.
* Conduct performance and range reviews:for your customer, conduct regular reviews or ad hoc analysis and give clear 'so what' recommendations.
* Create a Category vision:Support the creation of Vinarchy's category vision and growth drivers. Deliver it to your customers.
* Conduct Vinarchy performance analysis:For the sales team, track, report review and explain the performance of the of Vinarchy in your customers.
* Identify sales opportunities and risks for Vinarchy in your customers.Bring the independent and objective voice of category to influence commercial sales teams.
* Contribute to Brand Planning:Contribute to annual brand planning with the voice of the category.
* Inform and develop new Products:Work with the Brand, Insight and Sales teams to convert insight into compelling category-led selling stories for New Products we are launching.
* Participate in Team Project Work:stand-alone one offs such as our annual Christmas Review or the show piece annual brand launch at \"House of Vinarchy\".
What Youll Bring:
* Experience:3 or more years of customer (i.e. retailer) facing experience in an FMCG environment.
* Background in a more junior category role is preferred but a transferable background in Trade Marketing, Sales or Consumer & Shopper insights is also considered.
* Use of Nielsen or Circana (was IRI) data, and/ or Kantar data systems.
* Also relevant, is loyalty card-based software - e.g. Dunn Humby, SIP/Nectar, Quantium, Hive.
* Microsoft office:Good skills in PowerPoint and Excel.
* Professional Development:in conjunction with your manager, you will build and follow your own bespoke Professional Development Plan (PDP).
* Continuous Learning:using your PDP, regular 1:1s with your manager, quarterly goals, and Vinarchy training resources, you will be in a cycle of act-reflect-change so that you are continuously growing.

* Stakeholder Management: External Customers -Able to lead and maintain an independent customer relationship, with advice from their manager when needed. Appreciates why different customers require different communication styles. Adapt to a professional standard of business communication in person or electronically.
* Internal Vinarchy Customers -With support, able to say no to challenging stakeholders. With preparation, meets senior stakeholders.
* Influencing:Learning the art of inception - the placing of your ideas, through reasoned evidence, into the minds of others. Gives stakeholders opinion as well as fact. Contributes prompted and unprompted to meetings.
* Analysis, Insight and Story Telling:developing their own personal signature style. Comfortably integrates a wide variety of sources into a coherent and demonstrable narrative.
* With support and coaching, is learning the difference between observation and actionable insight. May be highly specialised in certain technical skills, now looking to build breadth. Starting to explore original forms of analysis or visualization.
