Hours: Shift-based (including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins/waking nights as required
Job Purpose
The Support Worker will provide high-quality, child-centred care and support to children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) living in a residential setting. The role focuses on safeguarding, promoting emotional wellbeing, supporting positive behaviour, and helping children achieve stability, independence, and positive outcomes
Key responsibilities
* Provide safe, consistent, and nurturing care in line with care plans and risk assessments.
* Build positive relationships and support children’s emotional and behavioural needs.
* Use therapeutic approaches to manage behaviour and promote independence and life skills.
* Safeguard children by recognising and reporting concerns in line with procedures.
* Support daily living tasks, including personal care, activities, and maintaining a homely environment.
* Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with the team and professionals.
* Ensure health and safety standards are met, including checks, medication, and emergency procedures.
Person Specification
Essential
* Experience working with children or young people with EBD, trauma, or challenging behaviour OR strong transferable skills.
* A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
* Ability to remain calm, resilient, and professional under pressure.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and nights.
* Enhanced DBS check (Children’s Barred List) – required.
Desirable
* NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Children and Young People (or willingness to work towards).
* Experience in residential children’s homes.
* Training in trauma-informed care, de-escalation, or PBS.
* Knowledge of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 Training & Development
* Comprehensive induction programme.
* Ongoing mandatory and specialist training (Safeguarding, EBD, Trauma, Behaviour Management). xlqdzyr
* Regular supervision and annual appraisal.
