Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management - 31666

England is reforming agricultural policy and spending in the Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes, moving from the CAP to ELM. ELM schemes reward farmers and land managers for public goods, including water, soil and biodiversity outcomes alongside food production. You will work with Defra and delivery partner colleagues to improve services to farmers and shape our organisational response to government reviews. The role supports the EA2030 strategy and targets for water, the environment and climate, and involves influencing the design and delivery of incentives within the wider reform context.
The Environment Agency ELM team seeks dynamic, strategic thinkers to influence the future of ELM, particularly the delivery of Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT). You will contribute to the design and delivery of CSHT products for the Farming and Countryside Programme and drive continuous improvement of the scheme.
Responsibilities
* Provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, and oversee programme milestones.
* Identify future risks and resource requirements; work across teams and organisations with senior leaders to articulate a scheme that supports objectives.
* Deliver key CSHT products and contribute to the continuous improvement of the scheme.
* Operate within the Nature & Place Directorate as part of the National Agriculture and Land Team, in an agile, fast-paced, flexible environment.
* Support a dispersed team using smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel.
Experience and skills
* Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential.
* Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.
* Understanding of environmental sensitivities related to significant agriculture sector reform.
* Experience interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose risk-based solutions for challenging problems.
* Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; self-starter who actively develops and advances ideas.
* Ideal candidates can demonstrate: getting things done through others; embodying culture; ensuring information is trusted; cascading key information; building relationships quickly; handling challenging conversations.

You’ll have an EA Office base location, but the working location is flexible/hybrid in England. Some travel/overnights may be required.
