Job overview
The postholder will work as a Healthcare Scientist (Cardiology) in Cardiac Rhythm Management, Angiography and PCI. This is a fixed term contract that will follow a 24‑month training program dependent on experience and application. Upon completion / during the postholder will be eligible to apply for a permanent invasive post at the trust as they arise over the 24‑month period and post completion.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To work towards independently in the cardiac catheter lab undertaking the physiologist role during coronary angiography and angioplasty (PCI).
* To work towards independently implanting and programming cardiac devices including pacemakers, loop recorders, ICD, and CRT devices.
* To work towards being independent in face‑face and remote follow‑up clinics for the above.
* To achieve BHRS accreditation within 24 months of commencing the post.
* Participates in the on‑call rota for Invasive Cardiology once competent.
* To assist and produce audits as required by the Team Leaders and Clinical Service Manager.
* Work within the Cardiology service as required.
* Is able to carry out, without supervision, and produce a factual report on the following: Routine ECG, 24‑hour ECG and BP analysis, event recording, physiologist‑led exercise tolerance testing, cardiac catheterisation and angioplasty, cardiac device implantation and follow‑up IVUS, intra‑aortic balloon pump usage.
* To complete and keep up to date with mandatory training.
* Comply with all Trust policies, procedures, and protocols.
Clinical Duties
* Care, maintenance, and safety checks for all complex equipment you use.
* Adhering to department protocols and procedures following national guidelines.
* Competently undertake haemodynamic monitoring during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterisation procedures.
* Competence in manual handling skills for patients and equipment.
* Works within established protocols, codes of practice and policy as a specialist.
* Be the first line resuscitation with defibrillator or assistance in the insertion of balloon pump and temporary pacing wires.
* Make physicians aware of unanticipated events.
* Analyse and act upon cardiac catheterisation data.
* Provide technical support and decision‑making during cardiac device implantation and follow‑up as an independent practitioner.
* Carry out domiciliary visits as required.
* Prioritise own workload and caseload.
* Maintain device database system for all implanted devices.
* Responsible for training, development and supervision of student physiologists and junior staff who are undertaking training within the department.
Person specification
QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
* BSc in Healthcare Science (Cardiac Physiology)/BSc in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or equivalent.
* Registered or eligible for AHCS registration.
* Recent relevant experience in 24‑hour ECG analysis and ECGs.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
* Recent relevant experience in 24‑hour ECG analysis and ECGs.
* Recent relevant experience of Cardiac Catheterisation and Angioplasty.
* Recent relevant experience in Cardiac Rhythm Management (Implants and Follow‑Up).
* Demonstrable experience in Cardiac Rhythm Management and Cardiac Intervention.
COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS (INCLUDING MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES)
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
