A vacancy exists for a band 7 HCPC registered senior biomedical scientist in the haematology department. This role involves performing a wide range of haematology laboratory investigations, supervising and training junior staff, and deputising for the Lead BMS Haematology.
The department is accredited to ISO 15189.2022. Staff must adhere to quality procedures, work safely with hazardous samples, and follow regulatory guidelines. The department operates 24/7; hence, the postholder must be able to concentrate for extended periods, participate in a rota, and be familiar with pathology IT systems and automated analysers. There may also be a requirement to work in the blood transfusion department.
Responsibilities include overseeing the morphology and referred work sections, collaborating with senior staff, analyzing and reporting complex investigations, providing specialist advice, and training staff. Flexibility in working hours is required to support a 24/7 service. The role includes maintaining the quality management system and deputising for the Lead BMS as needed.
