The unit is a working partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The Unit was launched by Kingston Hospital in May 2001. Through the generosity and support of the local community, the Kingston Can appeal raised £3 million for the Unit. The fundraising was supported by a donation of £1.4 million from The Royal Marsden Trustees and £630,000 from Macmillan Cancer Support in 2006. A £22 million development, the Kingston Surgical Centre, was opened in 2007, including surgical wards and an education and training centre.
