We are recruiting for a leading designer and manufacturer of special purpose automated machinery. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join our team in Gloucester.
Key Responsibilities – Controls Engineer
Develop and support PLC, HMI, and Motion Control systems for bespoke automated machinery
Program and modify software using Rockwell Logix platform (Studio 5000, FTView ME, Kinetix motion control, Safety PLC)
Configure networked control systems with distributed I/O
Program and integrate vision systems (Cognex or similar) for inspection and measurement
Provide controls support during prototype builds, new machine commissioning, and field service on existing equipment
Ensure machine safety compliance with relevant international standards
Produce supporting documentation for manufacturing, testing, and customer packages
Deliver customer support, including on-site commissioning and troubleshooting
Identify opportunities for process, productivity, and quality improvements
Participate actively in product development and continuous improvement activities
Experience/Qualifications – Controls Engineer
HNC/HND or equivalent in a software/controls-related discipline
Proven experience in PLC, HMI, and motion control programming – strong Rockwell Logix experience essential
Knowledge of Siemens TIA Portal advantageous
Experience with robotic applications (Yaskawa preferred) desirable
Vision systems experience (Cognex or similar) advantageous
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work effectively in culturally diverse environments
Positive, supportive approach to technical problem-solving
Flexible and receptive to change
Willing and able to travel internationally (typically 4–5 trips per year, each 2–3 weeks duration)
